Vision Intelligence: Holy Grail, or Expensive Toy?

Since the launch of ChatGPT, AI has become an indispensable part of our society: AI. Many organizations believe it's "hip," "modern," and it even saves time. So they all want to jump on that AI train—and preferably as quickly as possible. But... is that train actually taking you to the right station? Is this really the direction you want your organization to take? And aren't you sacrificing a crucial element of human interaction?

In this article, we'll delve into the pros and cons of AI. And if you decide to get started, we'll give you some practical tips to get you off to a good start. So read on!

Faster is not always better

We don't deny that AI can save you a lot of time (provided you set it up properly, of course). But is that always better? We have our doubts about that. Take Tesla, for example: a company known for its high tech Innovations. Only, they've gone so far with automating their processes that customers can barely speak to a human being about their car anymore. Efficient? Undoubtedly. But does it also improve customer satisfaction? That's another story.

Look: AI works fantastically for predictable, repetitive tasks. A smart chatbot, for example, can easily notify a change of address, send an invoice, or answer a standard, frequently asked question. But no matter how well you train such a bot, sometimes your customers just want to talk to a human. For example, when it comes to complaints, personal issues, or complex problems.

Sometimes art, sometimes mediocre

Does AI help customers file a damage claim within five minutes at eleven o'clock at night, even when your offices are closed? That's a real achievement. But is a frustrated customer stuck in your phone's dialer for half an hour, only to be spoken to by an AI bot? That's mediocre.

The key is to carefully examine the processes within your organization and ask yourself, in each case, the question: "What do our customers want to achieve here? And what do they need from us to achieve it?" Sometimes AI can be a great help, and sometimes not.

A good start is half the battle

Finished writing your analysis? And are you going to use it to roll out AI across several aspects of your services? Then a good start is half the battle. This means your data needs to be in order and your processes streamlined. Only then can you start taking efficient steps with AI. How do you approach this smartly? Well:

✔️ Start small and concrete. Start with a process you have a lot of insight into. So, not just your entire customer service department, but perhaps answering frequently asked questions about invoices.

✔️ Create a business case. The goal of AI is to save you time and money. If you can't get the ROI right, don't even bother.

✔️ Make sure your data is correct. The quality of your input determines the quality of your output. If your data isn't in order, even the smartest AI tool can't help you.

✔️ Make smart combinations. People, process, and technology – that's the holy trinity. So make sure these three components work together effectively to achieve the best results.

✔️ Test and measure. Is your AI solution ready to go? Then first assemble a pilot group. What do they think of the new AI solution? Is there anything they're missing? Does anything need fine-tuning? Only when they're satisfied is your process truly finished.
